Maybe my interpretation of the works I know by Anselm Kiefer is too Nietzschean, maybe I am reading too many SF books too - but I can not help but learn from what I see, even if it is but a limited vision. And in this limited vision, what I see is that art at one point or another always becomes artefact, so why not try to make art as artefact right now? And while we are at it: everything we create, all our dreams and ideals are bound to become artefact eventually, as are the creations that spring from them. And even us, our bodies and our dreams, and those of our lovers, brothers, sisters will one day be nothing more than artefact - that is when we have not become dust long before that. We are surrounded by a majestic eternity, but we are forced to live within the boundaries of what we can imagine. Everything else is either grotesque to us, or fill us with religious feelings - or will remain unnoticed for ever after.
I live in Berlin, where I have seen 'Volkszählung.' I am 52 years old. I try to create beautiful things for as long as I can in the time that is still remaining. Do not ask me to explain why.
